The Southern Upland Way
The Southern Upland Way, Scotland’s only coast to coast, stretches 212 miles from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath.
Crossing through Dumfries and Galloway as well as the Scottish Borders and directly passing through the Galloway Forest Park itself, this challenging Long Distance Route (LDR) passes through vast open countryside amongst some of Scotland’s most dramatic and unspoilt scenery.
From our Southern Upland Way (SUW) Information Centre based directly on the route in St.John’s Town of Dalry, we provide information, services and support to assist walkers in traversing Scotland’s coast to coast footpath; whether walking the whole way, the western or eastern section or simply taking a short walking holiday along sections of the Southern Upland Way, based in one of the many scenic towns or villages.
The Bargrennan to St. Johns Town of Dalry section takes you on an adventure through the magestic Galloway Forest Park to Loch Trool and Loch Doon where the higher ground rewards you with some of the best views along the Way.
The long section (now 25.5 miles) from Bargrennan to St Johns Town of Dalry is a daunting prospect for many walkers and over time a natural breaking point at Clatteringshaws has evolved allowing walkers to split this section in two.
