The Glentrool 7stanes trails

  • Green Torr Blue Route (blue grade)
  • Glentrool Big Country CTC ride (ungraded)
  • Is for you, if you like...very long rides, stunning scenery and remoteness.
Highlight... View over Loch Trool by Bruce’s monument.

Glentrool is a 7Stanes mountain biking venue like no other. True to the 7Stanes project’s goal of having a different feel at each 7Stanes site, the Glentrool ‘Big Country Ride’ really is a challenge of its own. So much of a challenge that it has defied the grading system and is even more challenging than your average black grade! But no for skills are needed, and in fact, it is sheer energy and enthusiasm required to complete the 58km route that is the challenge. During this 58km, you can experience some of the finest views and most remote tracks in Galloway. It is a day to lose yourself in the scenery, but be sure to take a trail map or O.S. map with you because this is not an area to ride ill-prepared. Your reward will be an experience that has shaped Mountain Biking: a true cross-mountain journey and adventure.

An 8km, 7Stanes blue-graded mountain bike route also runs from the visitor centre, here, in Glentrool. This provides the Glentrool bite-size experience. The 7Stanes blue route is a great wilderness experience for the family, all within easy reach of a café! The site has distractions for those not wishing to experience the area by bike. Long and short distance walks leave from the café and there is plenty to learn of the area’s connection with Robert the Bruce.

This is an often-forgotten part of Scotland with a real, rugged, west coast feel. There are few places in Scotland steeped in as much history, landforms or indeed fresh air as at Glentrool! This is the first of the 7Stanes reached from Stranraer, so it's perfect for fitting in on a trip to or from Ireland. The 7Stanes mountain bike route skirts past Newton Stewart, a great base for taking on Glentrool and indeed Kirroughtree, which also joins on to the 7Stanes route. Choose how epic you want your Glentrool experience to be, but choose carefully!

The new blue trail at Glentrool is great fun and we know you are all desperate to give it a bash - so come soon!
