The surrounding area boasts a wealth of wildlife and bird life, including Red Kites, with extensive uninterrupted views. Airie is reached by a good hard track of about 2 miles and is located between Loch Stroan and Loch Skerrow for which permits are not required by holidaymakers staying at the cottage. It is also a short distance from Loch Ken where prescribed fishing rights are also available to Airie guests.
Local amenities include: Galloway Forest Park affording 300 square miles of walking, cycling, riding and trekking; the Galloway Sailing Centre and Water Sports Marina, both of which are on Loch Ken; several challenging Golf Courses, including New Galloway Golf Club.
